Typing skills are becoming more important to have in today's society and job market. Students need to learn proper typing skills on the computer. Type to Learn is a computer program used by students to
develop their keyboarding skills. Students play different games to learn where
the keyboard layout and which fingers they should use to type with. Students
who would benefit from this software are ones with hearing-impairments, because
it gives a visual display for students to look at. Type to Learn is a fun way
for students to practice their keyboarding skills, so they are able to use the
computer to engage with the world around them.
An example that I
found was JumpStart Typing. “Jumpstart Typing is a solid
learn-to-type program, hidden by a fun user interface, and an attractive collection
of typing drill games. The program features some amount of adaptive learning --
that is it tracks performance strengths and weaknesses, and focuses more
attention on the weaker areas” (SuperKids Software).
