Natually Speaking Voice Recognition Software

Naturally speaking voice recognition is a speech recognition software that allows students to dictate their words into a computer without the use of a keyboard. In order to use this software the environment in which it is being used must be a quiet one with little to no background noise. This is why this software may be harder to use in a school environment.

Students that would benefit from this software would be students who struggle with writing, and poor fine and gross motor skills. Students with poor speech would not benefit from using this software, until dictation is improved upon.

Brands that are common used in school are:

  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking (Nuance)

  • SpeakQ (goQ software)

  • MacSpeech Dictate (nuance)

After watching this video on "Naturally Speaking Voice Recognition Software" it has allowed myself to understand how to use the software. It allows accommodations for my students who struggle with writing. I will definitely try to use this in my classroom.
