Break Cards

After learning about Autism, and understanding students who have Autism struggle with communication skills, I wanted to give examples of ways these students could express their needs to others through the use of different communication cards.

The first example is of break cards. These cards are used for communicating that they need a break. With Autistic students they are not able to verbally request a break, so they use these cards to express their need for a break. Many students with Autism get irritated and show negative behavior, because they are unable to express themselves. Having these break cards in close proximity of the student at all times will allow then to request a break, before a negative behavior can occur.
