Portable Word Processor

Example of the Neo 2

Another example used for assisted technology is the portable word processor. Students who struggle with writing really benefit from using these devices.

Portable word processors are lightweight devices that are easy for students to transport throughout their school day, as well as to and from school. Students who would benefit from using this assisted technology device would be students with limited fine motor skills and/or reading/writing disabilities. Portable word processors make writing more accessible for many types of students. Editing and revising work can also be done more easily through a word processor.

This is a video describing how the word processor works for students with disabilities.

One product that Dell describes is called “Neo 2”.  “The Neo 2 has a full sized keyboard; lightweight; and has features like basic editing commands, a thesaurus, a spell-checker, and a Spanish-English word lookup” (Dell, 46).
